Choosing a Thread Color
Choosing a Thread Color for your Monogram
There are 2 main considerations to keep in mind while choosing a color of thread for your embroidery.
1. Color Wheel
This is a more technical way to visualize what colors work well together. Choosing colors directly across from each other will give you a complementary color scheme. These colors match because they are polar opposites. This scheme will create vibrant stitching that stands our against its background. Go this route if you’re looking for a lot of contrast!
You can also opt for multiple shades of the same color in different hues to conjure a monochromatic scheme like the pink pictured above!
Identifying the items primary use is important when selecting a thread color. For example, a computer bag used for work may call for something neutral, classic, and subtle to give it a professional feel while you may wish to put a loud, playful neon on your favorite rain jacket. For winter boots that you wear frequently you may prefer a color that matches most of your winter attire. What type of person is this item for? Do they lean towards loud, luminous colors or tend to sport more faint, simple tones? When customizing a purse for your grandmother you would likely assign a different shade than you would for your younger sister. Think over the purpose to help decide on a perfect color for the occasion.
While these suggestions may steer you in the right direction, everyone has their own ideas of what looks amazing! Don’t be afraid to get creative and try something new!
